Your cheersquad
Have you tried to be kinder to yourself but struggle? I do. Sometimes we do something so daft that it is impossible to talk out ourselves of the shame cloud. Instead of battling yourself, try this technique: form your cheersquad. These can be people who love you, and compassionately have your back, someone you admire, or a famous person who inspires you.
Two members of my cheersquad are Elle Woods (Legally Blonde); she takes on the world with full heart and is authentically her, no matter the opposition, and Beyonce; the embodiment of fierce feminine power.
When you are getting down on yourself, imagine what these people would say to make you feel better and change the narrative. If you can’t be your best cheerleader, imagine others doing this. Allow these people to hold you, know your worth and be kind to you when you are struggling. You will become more and more comfortable hearing positive feedback in your head (lovingly constructive is ok), and improve your practice of self-kindness.
Think about each individual in your cheersquad. Reflect on what you admire about them and how it is they can support you. How do they encourage you when you are feeling low?
