Sports Massage with Emma

Sports massage therapy works with soft tissue towards body goals such as reducing pain, increasing mobility, releasing tension, and relaxation.

I have been working as a sports massage therapist since 2016 and some of my most profound healing work has been with clients of massage. It is a therapy I receive regularly for my personal self-care.

I am trained in a variety of techniques including deep tissue. My philosophy for massage is that you should not be in pain or wincing under the pressure. I am stronger than I look, so can provide a firm massage. However, we are in constant communication about pressure and the aim is that it brings you to a point of feeling release, likely mild discomfort, but not pain.

I balance a firm massage with techniques that will soothe and relax your body and mind. Often my clients will fall asleep!

I find massage is one of the best ways to release tension, reduce stress and really get you into your body. We will use massage in our multidimensional wellbeing sessions, and clients can book separately for individual sessions.

Sessions are usually 1 hour. This time allows for in-depth work on one muscle chain/ area for example back, neck and shoulders. Or lower back and legs. I can certainly do a full body massage however, there is no time for work on specific problem areas.

I also teach self-massage in my workshops (click here) and run massages for corporate self-care days with teams and organisations (click here). For corporate clients head and neck massages are popular, as well as lower leg and feet (this doesn’t require getting undressed and on the table). However, I have a fully mobile set up so can bring the massage table to your workplace!

Please note I do not work with injured tissue. I can work with you if you are in pain, just not if you have been injured in an accident or torn muscle etc. If you have an injury please seek guidance from your healthcare team. However, get in touch to discuss with me to see what is suitable.

Qualifications: I am a Level 3 Active IQ Sports Massage Therapist and REC 2 first aider

 Some profound client stories:

Amanda

One woman Amanda came to me in pain. She had a frozen shoulder for three years and it was severely affecting her life. She told me that her shoulder became frozen after her husband passed away three years ago. She had cared for him through a long illness, and she had been in pain ever since. She had regrets over her anger with him for his illness and his bad temper, she was torn by wanting to move on but honouring his memory, she didn’t know how to be happy. I mostly just listened. I have learned over the years to not react with meaningless words to mask my awkwardness, so I gave her the space to use the time for what she needed. Sometimes she was quiet, sometimes she talked with real vulnerability. I worked hard and channelled all my healing energy into these massages. I was determined to give her the opportunity to heal, give her permission to feel better.

I could literally feel her pain when I worked on her shoulder, feel her grief under my fingers. After three sessions with me, she had normal mobility and her pain was gone. She told me I had healed her.

Mary

Mary came to me for a massage whilst on holiday. I noticed a sizeable lump straight away on her lower back. I advised she speak with her doctor. She was surprised as she got a massage every week at home, yet no one had mentioned they had seen it. I gave her a massage ensuring I worked around the affected area.

She visited me a year later. We shared a beautiful emotional moment when she told me the lump was cancerous. She was now in remission, but she thanked me for helping save her life.

I have never been more profoundly grateful of the privilege it is to work with people towards their wellbeing.
